Delegates and Placards at the Inauguration

As we approach the anniversary of Auroville’s inauguration ceremony on February 28th, we will put up a couple more posts of photos from the ceremony.

This week’s focus is on the placards that were used during the ceremony, with names of the various participating countries and Indian states on them, and the delegates holding these placards. Other delegates held on to small terracotta bowls which contained soil from these various countries and states, to be poured into the urn at the center of the amphitheater.

The photos of delegates arriving at the venue give a sense of the activity, excitement and human energy of the occasion. Once the event began, a more sombre energy would have prevailed.
