Invitation into Auroville - vanakkam, namaste, welcome, bonjour

You've Arrived!

Every day, thousands arrive at Auroville with curiosity and questions. Arrival Auroville is a simple welcoming initiative, created in collaboration with the Auroville International Information Centre, to help you orient, pause, and discover the deeper spirit of this place.

It is an invitation to sense why Auroville exists, what it aspires to, and how you can experience it with openness.

Open to ALL...

A window into the spirit of a city in the making.

Auroville is not a tourist destination. It is a living experiment — a City founded by The Mother of the Sri Aurobindo Ashram as a place for human unity, where the material and the spiritual meet.

Many come curious, but few pause to ask: What is the real aim of this place?
To seek, not consume. To journey inward, not just outward. To live in peace, concord, and harmony, and to participate in the conscious evolution of humanity.

We want to help you glimpse this spirit — to greet Auroville not merely as a physical site, but as a progressives possibility.

How to make the most out of Auroville?

Visiting Auroville is not like visiting a tourist spot; it is stepping into a living experiment. This place was built as a field for human unity and conscious evolution, and every visitor becomes part of that atmosphere. To be here means arriving with openness, respect, and a willingness to learn — not as a consumer, but as a participant. The city is still in the making, with its challenges and imperfections, yet it offers a rare chance to glimpse another way of living. Come gently, walk mindfully, and let Auroville speak to you in its own quiet way.

  • Come in the spirit of respect for human unity.

  • Auroville is a city still in the making — inconveniences are natural; accept them with patience.

  • Avoid consumerist behaviour. Support only Auroville units and products, which are created consciously to sustain the collective.

  • Do not litter. Carry your own bottle; disposable plastics are discouraged.

  • Stay in Auroville in a conscious manner or choose guesthouses in the greenbelt.

  • Refrain from promoting private or commercial ventures that do not support Auroville.

  • Smile. Move quietly. Give Aurovilians the space to work — their time is precious.

Visitor FAQ

Silence helps each person connect inwardly. It allows everyone to share the space in peace, without disturbance.

The inner chamber is reserved for quiet concentration. Entry is managed to preserve its atmosphere and to avoid overcrowding.

The walk to the Matrimandir is meant to be a transition — from the noise of the world to a more inward mood. Commercial activity would disturb this atmosphere.
