Auroville Orientation

Auroville Orientation Programme for Newcomers

The Auroville Orientation Programme (AOP), organised by the Human Resource Service, is a comprehensive initiative designed specifically for newcomers to Auroville. Its purpose is to provide a deep understanding of Auroville’s ideals, vision, Charter, practicalities, participation opportunities, and essential processes, in line with the Auroville Foundation (Admission and Termination of Persons in the Register of Residents) Regulations, 2023.

Key Features of the AOP:

  • Mandatory Sessions: Attendance is compulsory for all newcomers. The programme consists of 48 sessions spread throughout the year, providing a structured and immersive introduction to life in Auroville.
  • Speaker Sessions: Experienced residents, mentors, and senior community members present topics every 1st and 2nd Saturday of the month, offering lived insights and practical guidance.
  • Interactive Format: Ample time is dedicated to Q&A sessions, encouraging active engagement and understanding.
  • Attendance Monitoring: Personnel from the Admissions and Terminations Registry coordinate attendance and report to the Admissions and Terminations Scrutinising Committee (ATSC), ensuring compliance and due process in accordance with the regulations.
  • Online Access: All sessions will be recorded and shared online, ensuring accessibility for newcomers’ future reference.
  • Location and Environment: Sessions are conducted at a suitable location within Auroville, providing a conducive environment for learning, interaction, and reflection.

Admission Service

The programme forms an integral part of the newcomer probation period and is mandatory for all newcomers, ensuring they are fully prepared to engage meaningfully with Auroville life. Volunteers transitioning to newcomers are also required to complete the AOP during their twelve-month probationary period. This approach ensures that participation in Auroville is guided by commitment and alignment with its ideals, rather than casual or temporary engagement.

Weekly sessions

The AOP is organised by the Human Resource Service, ensuring that newcomers receive a well-structured, integral introduction to Auroville’s living experiment. By attending this programme, newcomers gain the knowledge, context, and confidence to actively contribute to the community while respecting the Charter and Admission/Residence Criteria.

Join us every Saturday from 3–5 pm and embark on a transformative journey into the heart of Auroville.
